Walking in a Winter WonderlandHow are fairies made? Why are the Winter Lands separate from the rest? And why did Cherri get so long winded on this page? Okay there are massive spoilers for Secret of the Wings on this page!
Fairies are born from a baby’s first laugh. That laugh then travels to a dandelion puff that the wind catches and takes to the Second Star. Once in Neverland it travels to Pixie Hollow or the Winter Woods. Fairies of all types are woken up by the traveler and all arrive at the Pixie Dust tree. There the laugh and dandelion puff materialize into the fairy. The Queen or Lord of the land then tells the new fairy to find his or her talents by having them go near different objects. Flowers (Garden Fairies), a hammer (Tinkers), droplet (Water Fairies), and snowflakes for a type of Winter Fairy and so on. There are a lot of different types of fairies. Once a fairy knows what their talent is they are named by the Queen or Lord. The fairy then goes off to be with the rest of that clan to learn and live.
It's really only seen in Pixie Hollow but I'm assuming it works the same in the Winter Woods. Or a fairy that doesn't make it to the Winter Woods and goes to Pixie Hollow instead and the snowflake glows, then they get sent to the Winter Woods. I'm not too sure but I think it's a pretty good theory. Pixie Hollow and the Winter Woods are separated by a border. The Winter Woods are much too cold for the warm fairies and the warm seasons are much too warm for the winter fairies, and yes this includes Autumn and Spring.
Once upon a time when the Pixie Tree was still young, two fairies, a warm season and a winter fairy met. They were completely enchanted with one another and would meet every day at the border. But as their love grew they wished to be together more. So, the one of the fairies crossed the border. It was fine for a time but it was too much. The fairy's wings got too warm and broke. Then Queen Clarion declared that it was forbidden to cross the border. Winter Fairies and Warm Season Fairies were never allowed to cross the border again. And thus, the two fairies had to say good bye.
And then Tinker Bell comes about with Fawn to help the animals cross over for winter. They take the animals to the border and help them cross but the fairies don't cross themselves. It's dangerous and they think the Lord of Winter made the rule. Well Tink is a very curious fairy and crosses anyway, her wings begin to sparkle like never before and they start to freeze. Luckily Fawn notices that Tink is across the border and pulls her to safety and then takes her to a Healing Talent fairy. Her wings are just fine but they could have broken. Tink then sets off to find why her wings sparkled. It takes her to the Winter Woods (where she has dressed warmly) and she finds she has a sister! They have identical wings and were born from the same laugh. That's why their wings sparkled. So Periwinkle and Tinker Bell spend as much time as they can together and Tink takes Peri to the Warm side by using an invention that creates ice. It works for a time but the ice runs out and Peri is going too hot. Tink and her friends rush Peri back and they met Lord Milori.
They all get scolded. The Tink tries to reason with Milori about them being sisters and needing to stay together. But Milori retorts, "All the more reason you would want to keep each other safe". Crossing the border is dangerous. Tink tries to get him to lift the rule but Clarion steps in and says she declared that rule to protect everyone. Peri and Tink have to say bye and after a hug they both fly off crying. Once Milori is alone he and his snowy owl knock over Tink's ice maker into the river below but it gets stuck and causes a great storm. This storm is freezing Pixie Hollow. During this Clarion and Milori tell the girls what happened to a fairy that crossed the border for love only to have a wing broke and how the rule was made.
It gets colder and colder in Pixie Hollow and the fairies find out why. They have no idea how the ice maker got stuck but they move it but it doesn't help. The seasons are already off balance. They return to Pixie Hollow but the seasons are freezing. Tink then flies into the Winter Woods to get Peri and ask for help. She falls to the ground and tells the girls what's going on. Peri, Gliss and Spike go with Tink back to Pixie Hollow and the three winter fairies try to ice the tree before it freezing but there is too much tree. THEN! Milori and the Winter Fairies show up to help. Much thanks to Dewy who rounded everyone up to help. The winter fairies make a coat of ice over everything to prevent the ice storm from destroying things. The plan works and Pixie Hollow is saved! They then find out that Tink's wing has been broken. And there is no cure for a broken wing. Everyone is sad and shocked. Clarion and Milori feel it is their fault for trying to keep the girls apart.
But with the sparkling of Peri and Tink's wings due to sister magic, Tink's wing is restored. Everyone is happy again. Milori and Clarion then kiss and are now back together. Fairies are now allowed to cross the border. Winter Fairies use their magic like they did in Pixie Hollow to create a nice blanket to keep the warm in on the warm fairies wings. Tink and Peri can see each other whenever now. And Clarion and Milori can also and they are still very much in love with each other.
Later during a seasonal festival, Milori and Clarion are side by side.
